Wrapping-up the year at the Lopez Valdes Lab
19/12/2025 James Kevin Bradshaw and Salma Ahmed presented research posters a the 2025 TCBE Research Day where we also had contributions from the Reilly lab and the Di Liberto lab for the Neural Engineering part of the smposium. We also had some time to wind down and have fun… to mark the start of the holiday season we had a joint lab social with some food and old school arcades! To end the academic activities of the year, Prof. Lopez Valdes visited Deusto University in Bilbao, Spain to give a guest lecture to their Neuropsychology MSc titled Appliend Neural Engineering for Brain Health.
Introducing Dr. Sara Carta!
30/11/2025 Sara Carta officially became the first PhD from our lab to defend her Thesis. Remember, remember the 5th of Novemeber… when Sara completed her Viva Examination. With Profs. Lars Meyer and Robert Whelan as examiners. Huge congraulations to Sara and to her supervisroy team with Dr. Emina Alickovic and Dr. Johannez Zaar from Eriksholm Research Centre and Prof. Giovanni Di Liberto and Prof. Alejandro Lopez Valdes from Trinity Collge Dublin. Also in November, but later in the month, we presented three conference papers at the IEEE EMBS Neural Engineering Conference in San Diego, CA.
Just before the new Academic Year
26/09/2025 Our summer activities wrapped-up with intensity! In August, we held the final PhD meeting with for Sara Carta’s project at Eriksholm Research Centre in Denmark, whe had a great discussion with our industry collaborators Johannes Zaar and Emina Alickovic. In September whe had the launch of the Collective Minds Lab at the Hyperscanning FLUX 2025 Pre-conference Workshop co-organised in collaboration with Dr. Daphne van der Putte from Artinis, Prof. Pascal Vrticka from the University of Essex and Profs. Shane O’Mara and Giovanni Di Liberto from Trinity College Dublin. Finally, in the spirit of team building, we participated in the Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering sports day, just in time for the start of the new academic year!
IEEE EMBS Conference in Copenhagen
31/07/2025 A very exciting first PhD conference experience for James Bradshaw and Anneliese Walsh. Both presented their work related to ear-EEG and multi-class classification of dementia at the IEEE EMBS Conference in Copenhagen. We reconnected with many old friends and discussed research partnerships with collaborators. The Neural Engineering Group also had fantastic representation from the Reilly Lab with Professor Richard Reilly, Daniel Diez Clarke and Aoibheann Gil.
After the conference, we were delighted to be hosted for hand-on ear-EEG workshop at the Center for Ear-EEG in Aarhus University by Professor Preben Kidmose and his team, including Bowen Duan.
From Mobile EEG to Creative Brain Week!
30/06/2025 In June we had the pleasure to host Melanie Klapprott and Lara Papin from the Neuropsychology Lab at Oldenburg University for Mobile EEG Seminar. TCIN celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Neuroscience Research Day where Anneliese, James and Prof. Lopez Valdes presented our latest research and perspectives. Also in June, another edition of Creative Brain Week where Prof. Lopez Valdes participated in a panel discussion on the neuroscience of activating kindness.
Global Brain Health Institute in Lima!
27/05/2024 This year’s GBHI annual meeting and AAIC Satellite Symposium took place in Lima, Peru. An amazing place for connections, learning, promotion of brain health and food. It was great to see the progress of GBHI projects in which we are involved. For an overview of those projects visit our GBHI Project page.
A March full of action
31/03/2025 This March was full with action in the lab!
Anneliese Walsh presented her PhD work at the early career researcher day of the Dementia Research Network Ireland. She won a best presentation award!
Sara Carta left for a secondment to Denmark at Eriksholm Research Center to spend time with her industry supervisors Emina Alickovic and Johannes Zaar. She is on her way back to wrap-up her PhD!
Together with the Reilly Lab, Neural Engineering at Trinity participated in the Trinity on The Move Day, sponsored by the School of Engineering. This event helped raising money for the Student Hardship Fund (you can donate too here).
Great start of the year!
25/01/2025 This January saw Sara Carta wrap-up the data collection for her Ph.D. In all, she carried out over 60 EEG data collection sessions, 40 Audiometries and 40 cognitive tests! Stay tuned for the results to come! Well done Sara! We also participated in the discussions around the The Brain: Past, Present and Future at the Robert Boyle Winter School.
